About Tyne Automation

I’m Mark Burn, a Chartered Engineer with over 20 years of experience in automation, control systems, and engineering leadership. I’ve worked across automotive, subsea, building material manufacture, and industrial IT sectors in both hands-on and strategic roles, supporting everything from urgent breakdowns to site-wide digitalisation plans.

I set up Tyne Automation to offer something that’s often missing from engineering support: practical, independent advice from someone who’s been in the thick of it. I’m not here to upsell hardware or drop in generic frameworks. I work directly with your team to solve problems, reduce downtime, and make meaningful progress—whether it’s in the control panel or the boardroom.

My role is simple. I make sure the job is done right. That means asking better questions, guiding decisions with context, and helping deliver outcomes that hold up in the real world—not just on paper.

Over the years I’ve led SCADA rollouts across complex processes, supported legacy equipment that most people have forgotten how to work with, and helped teams get moving again when progress had stalled. I’ve also built and mentored engineering teams, sat on the technical leadership side of investment decisions, and made sure projects didn’t just look good on paper—they worked on the ground.

Tyne Automation supports clients based in the North East. I focus on four key service types:

  • Technical Leadership-as-a-Service – Senior-level input without a full-time hire—mentoring, direction, and assurance for internal teams and technical decisions.
  • Digitalisation Strategy – Practical support for manufacturers looking to better use their data, modernise safely, and avoid overcomplication.
  • Fixed-Term Project Support – Scoped, independent support for control system upgrades, installations, and automation projects.
  • Control Systems Advisory – Hands-on expertise with PLCs, SCADA, and industrial automation where experienced eyes make a real difference.

Every engagement is delivered independently and aligned to client priorities—no timesheets, no supervision, no hidden agenda. Just a focus on making sure the job is done right.
